I have a recipe that says to use a sweet onion!? All I have is a Red & Yellow onion!.!.!. Which one should i use!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I would use the red, it's not as strong and yellow!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Neither one is really a sweet onion!. The red onion might be sweeter than the yellow but not for sure!. You could cut into each of them and taste to see which was sweeter!. Depending on the recipe it might not make a difference if it is sweet or not!. The sweet onion will have a less pungent flavor and is not as "sharp" as a yellow or red or "spanish" onion!. The sweetest onions are usually available in the spring, Vadalia or Walla Walla onions!. There are others available in your grocery stores!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

use yellow onions!. if you can, use vidalia onions!. those are usually grown in georgia, often used in recipes in restauranta because of its sweetness!. but if you want to go for the really sweet ones, see if you can find some maui onions!. those are incredibly sweet, there are even eating contests around this onion!. some people swear it is just as sweet as applesWww@FoodAQ@Com

I would use a yellow rather than a red to me the red onion and the white onion are bitter the yellow onion is on the sweet side ! Www@FoodAQ@Com

Red would be the one to use!. But there are onions out there that are labeled sweet!. Like the sweet vadalia onion!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Red!. It won't make much difference!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
