Can you can soups? (We need opinions please.) ?!
My husband and I have considered taking up canning!. I dont' want to waste the money unless I know it's worth it as we have a baby on the way and a canning set looked to be about 50-70 dollars (after all the jars!.)
I was wondering can you can soups!? And if so, what kind!? Is it worth it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can can basically everything & it's really a great way to save some time & money in the future!. i bet if you got all the canning equipment you'd get your money back within a few months! the other plus to canning is you get to control what's in your food!. for instance salt/fat content!. i'm a canner & i couldn't imagine not canning because when i'm tired i can simply go to my pantry & heat up a jar of delicious homemade soup!Www@FoodAQ@Com
From what I've read you have to use a pressure canning set to can soups!. Simply sealing the jar will not ensure that they will not spoil!. Canning soups is different than canning veggies and you take a higher risk! They must be done properly or will spoil!. also, you have to be very specific about the temperature you get them to, how long they stay that temp, and you have to take into account things like the elevation where you live!.
I can't give you specifics, but I don't think you can can thickened soups at home (split pea, etc) and you can't can dairy soups at home, but things like chicken soup and bean soups you can!.
I would freeze soups, if you want to make batches and store them!. They can store for months and you don't have to worry about the same spoiling issues as canning!.
If you do want to can them, I also provided a link for basic pressure-canning instructions for a few different kinds of soups!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
