What side dishes do you make on week nights?!


Question: What side dishes do you make on week nights!?
I have 2 teenagers aged 17 & 15 moving in with our family of 3 1/2, but I never know what to make a side dish!. Now that times are so hard I really need more idea's and recipes of what you make as week night side dishes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Teenagers love cheesy potaoes!. Make a casserole side dish they will eat it up!. My son loves chicken or tuna casserole!. He can the entire pan of it and he is a tall slender guy! most teens love simple and filling foods!. My son loved my scallpoed potatoes with lots of cheese!. I made some Philly Cheese sandwiches with sliced beef and the gobbled them up! I am a mom of adult kids and had to learn to cook less because I have empty nest syndrome!. My hubby and I eat less and I keep food frozen, but I am always prepared in case they visit!. I always have something good in the fridge or freezer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

some wonderful side dishes would include something nutritious but tasty! of course you want to keep it simple too!.!. i usually go with twice-baked potatoes, creamed corn or rice pilaf!. The twice baked potatoes are easy!. microwave potatoes about 10 minutes!. cool!. cut in half length wise!. take out insides put skins aside (to be filled later) mash and whip potatoes with milk, sour cream, cheese and bacon bits!. fill up the empty potatoe skins with filling!. sprinkle parmesan cheese on top put in oven and cook for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees! the creamed corn you can buy canned!. the rice pilaf can be purchased box in the rice section of the store!. happy cooking!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Quick Broccoli and Cauliflower Casserole

1 bag frozen broccoli
1 bag frozen cauliflower
2 cans cheddar cheese soup
shredded cheddar cheese
bread crumbs

Mix veggies and soup together and pour into a buttered casserole dish, top with cheese and bread crumbs!. Bake on 350 for 40 minutes or until bubbly and cheese is melted!.

Quick Roasted Potatoes

6 or 7 large potatoes
olive oil
coarse salt

Wash potatoes thoroughly!. Place on a cookie sheet and toss with olive oil and salt!. Roast on 425 for 30 minutes!. Outsides with be crunchy and insides will be tender!.

Salsa Rice

2 Cups instant rice
4 cups salsa (prepared or home made)

Bring salsa to a boil, add rice!. Cover and steam for 10 minutes!.

Herbed Couscous

2 cups couscous
4 cups chicken broth
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 tablespoon garlic powder

Mix seasoning into chicken broth and bring to a boil!. Mix in couscous, cover and remove from heat!. Allow to sit for 5 minutes!.

Instead of side dishes, I usually just make a huge salad and we work at it all week!. That way I can also toss some salad and cheese into a wrap for lunches if I get pressed for time!. If we are having grilled cheese or omlettes for supper, we have a side of fruit like cut up mango or diced kiwi!. We are fairly light eaters and this gets us eating more fruits and veggies!. Mashed potatoes--real mashed!. also use lots of different rice dishes and pastas for sides or part of the main dish!. also try to serve some kind of veggie!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

baked potato, mashed potato or mashed sweet potato, box rice, boxed mac and cheese, we allways have a veggie we have a steamer and we buy frozen veggies they are ready in 15 min!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Acorn squash, or red potatos!. Squash is cheap its in season and you can get a 10lb bag of red potatos for cheap!. Or i just make frozen peas or carrots!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
