Answers:
Penne is cut on the diagonal and is longer and thinner than ziti!. I've never heard of mostaciolli!. Both Ziti and Penne can be smooth or rigate (with ridges)!. Ziti is almost always baked but Penne can be baked or cooked with various sauces!. I like chicken with pesto and tomatoes with penne!.

There is a handmade pasta that I don't know the name of that is also like penne!. They roll out the pasta and cut it into 1 1/2" squares and then they are rolled on the diagonal to make little tubes!. Maybe that is mostaciolli but I don't know!.

There are SO many shapes of pasta anyways!. I had something call bavette when I was traveling and I've been wanting to get it ever since!. It is like spaghetti but its cross section is like a half moon!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Penne is diagonally cut on both ends, ziti is a tube that can be cut short or be long (2 Ft), mostaciolli is not a normal pasta shape name (if it is a name it is specific to a certain region and the name isn't universal)!.

You should check out The Pasta Bible book - more info than you would ever want to know!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pasta made with the same flour differ in shape ang size; cooking time vary consequently!. Some dressing may be better for a kind of pasta according to the shape!. For instance for "pasta e fagioli" (fagioli = beans) a short pasta is needed!.
Mostaccioli are not a pasta! They're a dessert (similar to big cookies) from Naples and nearby areas!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it's just the way they are cut all are cooked the same
yea they have different meanings due to the shape they are in and how they are cut!.!.only pasta that's big diference is spaghetti but that's it honestlyWww@FoodAQ@Com
