the same reason that you order sweet and sour chicken at a chinese restaurant!. it's a polynesian dish, but it has long been associated with chinese food!. pineapple grows very well in hawaii and was embraced by the locals when it was imported there!. it is now a staple in their diet and one of their biggest exports!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

How about you go to the Dole Plantation website and look at the fact that they do indeed still grow and process pineapple there--IN HAWAI'I!. hmm!.!.!. probably because they grow a TON of pineapple in Hawaii!. It has great, warm conditions for pineapple!. I believe the biggest farm is the Dole Plantation on Ohau- it's a really big tourist site!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
