Well i dunno u might like savoury rice or not but i usually make this up!. Hope u might like this as well!.
Recipe for Savoury rice:-
Ingredients
1 carrot, cut into small dice
2 large cloves of garlic, chopped
2 onions, chopped
2 sticks celery, cut into small dice,
1 red pepper, cut into small dice,
A handful of frozen peas,
Basmati rice,
1 vegetable stock cube,
1 bay leaf,
Mixed herbs!.
1/2 tsp Turmeric
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

Method
1) Fry onion and garlic in oil until they get softened then add celery/carrot and continue to stir for about 1/2 minutes
2) Add rice and stir, so that rice mixes well the oil
3) Add enough water to cover rice/vegetable mix
4) Crumble stock cube into water, add bay leaf and mixed herbs (if dried - if using fresh, add close to the end)!.
4) Continue with stir; add more water in it if it is necessary!.
5) After about 5 minutes, stir in chopped pepper
6) Continue to cook the rice for a further 2/3 minutes, then add frozen peas and cook for a further 3 minutes

By adding the water slowly, and allowing it to absorb you can judge just how much to put in, as you don't want to end up draining the rice!. There should be just enough added in each time to keep it moist, but not drowning in liquid!. The great thing about this recipe is that is so versatile!. It goes with a lot of stuff, and can also be eaten on its own (to which I normally throw some other vegetables in to bulk it up)

meatloaf, mashed potatoes and sweet peas sounds great!.
You can load up the meatloaf with lots of onions and garlic and gave some buttery, garlicky creamy mashed potatoes on the side!. You can also use onion powder in the sweet peas!.
also making a gravy instead of a ketchup or bbq sauce topping would make this dish extra savory!.
Shredded carrots also add moisture to your meatloaf (if only using ground beef and bread crumbs, but you could use a mix of beef pork and lamb) and gives it some extra flavor!.
Rub a whole bulb of garlic withe some oil and roast, when done you should be able to squeeze the garlic out of its casings and add it to your potatoes while their still hot (peel and boil fresh potatoes)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi - This is delicious!. Home-made Coquilles St!. Jacques

(For Two) - A big handful of Queen scallops
Half a handful of prawns
1/2 pint of cheese sauce
3 cupfuls of mashed potato
a cupful of grated cheese
Chopped shallots, GARLIC ONIONS, (or spring onions,)
Salt & pepper to taste

Lightly boil the scallops - keep the water, and mix with the cheese sauce to make a very runny cheesy, fishy sauce!.

Mix the scallops , prawns , and the fishy cheese sauce in the bottom of a baking dish and add just a touch of the mashed potato to thicken it up!. sprinkle the onions and shallots on top and just gently mush the whole top half an inch!.
Add one layer of mashed potato and again mix up a bit, then the rest of the potato on top of that, and finally sprinkle the grated cheese on top , ( -I often mix some of the cheese into the spud to make it a "cheesy mash" !)

Bake in a hot oven until the edges are just bubbling and the cheese topping is brown and crisp

For a finishing touch, serve it with fresh hot bread rolls and a glass of Chardonnay!.
If you're feeling creative, then a few button mushrooms are great to add, and the odd flake of SMOKED haddock does wonders too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
