Question: Cheats Pastry Cream using Custard!?
Is it possible to make an ordinary tub of custard thicker to make a pastry cream for in a sandwich cake!?

Yes, if you beat some flour into cold custard it turns it into confectioners cream - the stuff you get in a custard or vanilla slice!. Ideally make a thick paste of the flour with a little cold water, beat really well with a fork until it's smooth, then mix that in!. This will stop it going lumpy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yup - easily done!. Heat the custard in a saucepan, then stir in some sifted all-purpose flour, stirring until lumps are worked out (if the lumps are a really big problem, you can pass the mixture through a sieve)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
