Au Gratin Potatoes OR Scalloped Potatoes?!

Question: Au Gratin Potatoes OR Scalloped Potatoes!?
What's the difference between the two!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Au Gratin is heavy with cheese and scalloped are more creamy, with a white sauce in it!. Both are good though!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Both have thinly sliced potatoes that are baked in a casserole dish!. Au Gratin is French for "with cheese", so it contains cheese!. Scalloped are usually just baked w/ some sort of dairy that is not cheese: milk, H&H, or cream!. Both usually have herbs and other seasonings!. I woudl say scalloped are a bit "soup-ier" whereas au gratin are a bit firmer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The difference is what the original recipe producer thought they ought to be called!. They are exactly the same thing!. Thinly sliced potatoes baked in a dish of cream, milk, seasonings cheeses!.

It is like what you call the stuff on top of the cake, Frosting or Icing!

Mostly it is how your great great grandmother refered to the dish!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have no clue!. I love them though!. I like the stoffers kind better than the box dried stuff!. It just takes so long to cook!. I wish I had some right now!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
