Do you think this is a worthy money-saving trick?!

Question: Do you think this is a worthy money-saving trick!?
Making homemade grape jelly from juice

3 cups grape juice (Prepared from frozen concentrate is fine)
1 package powdered pectin
4 cups sugar

In a large saucepan combine the prepared grape juice and the powdered pectin!. Stir it up to eliminate all of the lumps!. Bring the mixture to a full boil over medium heat, stirring some as necessary!. Add the sugar and return the mixture to a boil!. Boil for a full minute and remove from heat!. Ladle the jelly into clean sterilized jars and seal with bands and lids!. Process in a boiling water bath for about 10 minutes to seal!. Remove the jars and allow to cool before storing on the pantry shelf!. Makes about 5 cups or 1 quart size and 1 pint size jar!. When processed, they will keep on the shelf as long as a year!.

Do you think it will save money and is it worth the time!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Dollar General & Family Dollar stores sell jellies and jams so cheaply, I wouldn't go to the trouble - unless you find all your ingredients plus the jars and/or lids on sale and then double or triple the recipe!. It may say a one-year shelf life but it lasts much longer!. But you have to factor in the cost of using your stove for sterilizing jars and cooking the mixture!. The only real way of saving money is to make larger quantities!. A friend and I once split the cost of ingredients and spent the day canning at my home!. To make it fair we did the same thing with another vegetable at her house!. Perhaps you could get a group of friends, make each responsible for purchasing one item/ingredient with you donating the electricity and having the mess!. It's just a thought!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

It may taste better than storebought, but honestly, I doubt it's worth the time when you've got Wlech's grape jelly so godo right there in the store!. Bama is a good brand, too!.

Cost it out and see how that compares!. The break--even or "is it worth it!?" point may be different for you than for me!.

And if I DID make it from scratch, I'd make more than 5 cups worth of jelly! I'd quadruple the recipe to make it worth my time heating up a water bath and stuff!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Doesn't look like you'd save much on this, but here are some great money saver tips:
Switch to efficient light bulbs, we cut down our electric bill by two thirds after we switched!. It's a minor investment at first, but it pays off!. Just grab a couple each time you go grocery shopping and swap em out a few at a time!
Hang up a line outside to dry laundry when its sunny
Rinse your dishes in cold water (unless you have a dishwasher!)

God bless!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not really!. I know people who make thier own grape jelly but you can buy it for a dollar or so at wal-mart!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Grape jelly is only a little bit over a buck!. So I would say you're actually spending more making it yourself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

jelly is cheaper then grape juice and the amount of sugar neededWww@FoodAQ@Com

Only if you USE 5 cups of jelly a year, LOL

I know we don't!! Www@FoodAQ@Com
