Question: Can I use shredded cheese in a soup recipe that calls for velveeta!?
I want to make cheese-potato soup and the recipe calls for 8 oz of velveeta, can I use the shredded cheddar mozzerella blend I have in the fridge!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Hmmm!. The shredded cheddar is fine but you know how mozzerella strings!? Not good texture in a soup!. Might be okay if you put tortilla chips in to break up the strings when serving!. I use 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar and 1/2 cup milk as substitute for Velveeta!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can, but i wouldnt suggest it without altering the recipe!. Velveeta melts at a lower temperature than most cheeses!. Velveeta also has a much different taste than a mozz/cheddar mix!.

You can do it, but take note to increase cooking time or temperature to ensure that the cheese melts properly!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

i'm allergic to velveeta, so i do this all the time!. i would use finely shreaded cheese, add some milk, and melt it to be like quesso before you add it to your soup!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I use just about any cheese when i make that!.!.!.!.!.!.i just use a recipe as a guide and alter it to what i have in the house!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sure, but it may not blend in like Velveeta would!.
If you're just sprinkling it on top before serving, no problem!.
