I'm using an old Christmas cake recipe with a modern fan oven. ?!

Question: I'm using an old Christmas cake recipe with a modern fan oven!. !?
Suggested temperature and time: 3? to 4 hours at 300o!. Can someone in the know please help me to adjust this for my fan oven! (I haven't baked a fruit cake in it before!)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
The adjustments you need are in the manual with the oven but generally for rich fruit cakes you reduce the temp by 20 deg!. and check for doneness at 31/4 hours!.
You also have to put it on a low shelf-the first or second shelf up,that was what caught me out the first time I baked in mine!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm assuming you are talking about a convection oven!. If that is the case, use the temperature and time from the original recipe as a guide, check for doneness after three-quarters of the baking lime has elapsed (about 2 1/2 hours in this case)!. Or, you can reduce the original baking temperatue by 25 degrees F (to 275 degrees F)!. Open the oven door as little as possible during baking!.

Convection ovens are great for browning and crisping foods, most recipes designed for convection ovens do not call for baking dishes to be covered!. If you use your convection oven to bake a recipe that says to the dish, the temperature and time will probably stay about the same!. For covered long-baking recipes designed for a standard oven, you may reduce the temperature by 25-50 degrees F!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well from my baking experience, 300 is fine for Fan forced ovens, it is like the common temperature used for christmas cake, however, if it isn't fan forced, then usually you'll increase the temp by 20 degrees, hence for generally baking in a non-fan forced oven you would bake a 320 degress!. So personally i would just bake it a 300 and check the cake regularly at like 2 hours onwards, as fanforced ovens do tend to cook thin much much quicker then not fanforced ovens!. an we wouldn't want to burn the fruit cake!.

Hope this helpsWww@FoodAQ@Com

Well I'm assuming you mean 300 degrees fahrenheit so this would be around 150 degrees celsius!.

For a fan oven you should reduce by about 10 to 20 degrees so 130 degrees celsius should be fine (or 275 - 280 f)!.

You may want to cover the top of the cake with some foil near the end of the cooking time to stop it burning!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd reduce the temperature by about 20 degress, and keep an eye on it from 3 hours onwards!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We Use Fan For Ours And It Was Fine But Maybe Put It Down A Little Bit To Like 280Www@FoodAQ@Com

reduce it to 280 Www@FoodAQ@Com
