Question: I brined a turkey as a test and it came out TOO salty! Help!!?
My wife forced me to do a test brining before the big day and the turkey came out WAY TOO salty!. It was inedible!. The recipe I used was from FineCooking!.com and consisted of:

1 Cup Salt
1/4 Cup Sugar
4 Quarts of Water

I used a 6 lb turkey!.

Your ratios are correct!. The brine should float an egg!. Next time make more brine using the same measurements!.

It needed to be rinsed thoroughly inside and out!.

When cooking either slow smoking, roasting deep frying or what, do not add anything with salt!.

Next time just rinse it inside and out very well with cold running water!.

That would work if it was Kosher salt!. However that is too much salt cut it back down to about 1/2!. also add some herbs and spices to that, pretty bland!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you check, I'll bet the proportions were for a larger bird, maybe 15 -20 lbs!. Either cut back or rinse the excess brine off and dry well before frying! Www@FoodAQ@Com

reduce salt to 1/2 cup and add 1/2 brown sugar!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
