How do I check the temperature of my water?!

Question: How do I check the temperature of my water!?
I need to boil the water to cook something-about 160-180 degrees!. I don't entirely know if I have a thermometer on hand!. Is there a way I can judge how much generally it is!? Is it pre-boiling when it begins to boil!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

When it's just before simmering - just a lot of bubbles coming up - it should be around 160!. Actually boiling a little is closer to being over 200!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
