How do I clean rice at home?!

Question: How do I clean rice at home!?
I know it sounds kind of stupid, and my Mother told me that it's already clean!. But the instructions in this recipe say that I need to clean the rice until the water is clear!. I put the rice in a large bowl which I filled with water, and I've been kind of kneading it around, watching weird little pieces of white bits (which I assume is a layer of the rice)!.

Am I doing it right, because it's supposed to be clear for sushi, I believe!. Or something like that!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I do steamed rice all the time in a rice cooker and it does have to be cleaned before cooking!. The rice has a residual starchy powder on it that has to be removed!. Otherwise, it acts like a glue and makes the rice sticky!.

One way is like others have said, to put the rice in a pot of water, swish it around, and dump out the cloudy water!. Repeat a coupla-few times!.

I put the rice into a wire mesh strainer!. The strainer I have is exactly one of the measuring cups that came with the rice cooker to be one serving!. So, I don't even use the cup anymore!. I just run the strainer full of rice under a water spray for about 10 seconds !. This cleans it sufficiently to make good rice without sticking together!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some rice has tiny stones or debris that rises to the surface when washed, which I assume you might mean!. Not all rice needs to be washed, but it doesn't hurt!.Put your rice into a pot and let the water from the tap run into the pot to cover the rice!.
Swish it around and pour off the water and do this a couple of times without losing the grains of rice!. Finally after satisfying yourself that the rice is clean, put more water in the pot to cook the rice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no the rice is not already clean it is very dirty trust me!. What you can do is very simple fill the pot with water while your rice is in there (cool or warm water) and use your hand to move the rice around and swoosh it!. You will be amazed how dirty the water is!. Dump the water out and then redo it until the water is pretty good!. It will never be clear water but much better from the first time!.

do what your doing, that is how you clean riceWww@FoodAQ@Com

washing the rice removes all of the starches and making the rice very hard to work with!. most people prefer to wash their rice but you really do not have to!. as long as its kept in a tight container, its not "dirty!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

when you put the water in the bowl full of uncooked rice, swirl the bowl in a circular motion so the rice is moving with the water!. do this until the water is clearWww@FoodAQ@Com

What always worked, for me!.

is

putting rice and water, and mix it, (stir just a few times) and strain it, in a strainer, and repeat, one more time, that usually helps!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
