Inexperienced with bay leaves, any advice?!


Question: Inexperienced with bay leaves, any advice!?
I am making a recipe for a ham and bean soup that calls for a bay leaf!. I've never really used them before and noticed that they come in little clusters of bay leaves!. Should I just break off one leaf or put one cluster of the leaves in the soup!? Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Bay Leaves have a fairly strong flavor, and are usually used dried in recipes!. You can use fresh, but I would recommend only using one leaf!. Remember to remove it before serving and the leaves can cut the inside of your mouth or throat if accidently swallowed!.

If you like a stronger flavor, you can crush dried bay leaves in a spice or coffee grinder (used only for spices) and add the powder to recipesWww@FoodAQ@Com

The recipe will tell you how many bay leaves to use!. I've used as many as 5 in a big pot of stew before!.

Just remember to remove all the bay leaves a before serving!. Even cooked they are indigestible and can get lodged the digestive tract!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You only need a leaf or two to flavor a soup, provided that you put them in at the beginning!.
Bay leaves are a little like tea leaves in that they release their flavor progressively when heated!. The longer they cook the more flavor they release!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I saw someone throw one bay leaf into some stew when I was growing up so that is what I do,I never knew that you put leaves in the food until then !!,but it tastes dam good !!Www@FoodAQ@Com
