New crock pot advice?!

Question: New crock pot advice!?
I just bought a crock pot and have never used one before!. I'm a little skittish about leaving it on all day while I am not home, but I'll have to get over that!. My question, though: My counter top is made of wood!. Should I place something (a heat-resistant pad, perhaps) under the crock pot to protect the counter top from any heat, or is that not an issue!? Should I be concerned about rising heat and cabinets that hang over the crock pot!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I always put a cutting board under my crock pot!. I honestly don't think it would hurt the counter top but just in case!. Another thing you can do is put it on the stove top then you have nothing to worry about!. I've never noticed it being hot over the crock pot so it won't get too hot for your cabinets!. The crock pot should have some feet to keep it directly off the heat of the counter!. That said, if you have a large baking dish (the ones usually used to roast a HUGE whole turkey), what I do is place that dish (mine is just a thin aluminum one, like $5 from the grocery store) on the counter, line it with a few paper towels, then put the crock pot on top of that!.

If there's any boiling over while it's cooking, it can make a huge mess, wouldn't want that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I was nervous about the same thing!. So, to be on the safe side, I put the crock pot on my stove when I use it- fortunately, my cord reaches!. But truthfully, the bottom of it has never gotten hot (I still check it every time! lol)!. And I wouldn't be concerned about rising heat, it lets out way less eat than your oven, and I'm sure your oven has never caused damage to your cabinets above it, so the crock pot definitely isn't likely to!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

None of the things you asked about are an issue; the crock pot heat is very low!. The only suggestion I can think of at the moment, is!.!.!. When I cook a roast, or a big chunk of meat, I always put a layer of roughly chopped up onions, celery, maybe carrots, etc!. on the bottom of the crock pot and then lay the meat on top!. About 2 cups of broth/liquids is sufficent!. Then don't take the lid off to inspect the contents, or you'll lose important cooking time!. It will prolong your cooking time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if it makes me feel safer yes You will love te slawcooker it is yummy you could try sitting it on your stove tooWww@FoodAQ@Com

ussually the feet do the trick, but it will not hurt!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your concerns are unfounded!. You do not need anything under your crockpot, and the cabinets above will be fine!. (the upper cabinets usually do not hang out as far as the countertop anyway)!.

Drop some food in that pot, turn it on, put the lid on top, and leave! Come home to a home-cooked supper! It's wonderful! If you'd feel better, stay home the first time you use it!. Whatever!. I mean, you leave yoru fridge plugged in, yoru alarm clock and computer plugged in!.!.!.!.a crockpot is just as safe!.
