Raw salmon is obviously raw, and can be used for raw preparations like sushi and sashimi!. It's not cooked, cured (with salt) or smoked (meaning it's been in a room or chamber or oven-like thing filled with smoke -- and usually salted as well)!.!.!. smoked salmon is usually also cured with salt!.!.!. either way, it's a method of preserving the meat!. Raw is just that, raw, not preserved in any way!.!.!.

In cured salmon, where a sugar and salt mixture is used to cure(preserve) the salmon!. Gravadlox is a popular cured salmon

There are 2 types of smoked salmon, cold smoked and hot smoked!.
Cold smoked salmon is generally always cured before smoking, with the cold smoke the flesh remains flexible and can be sliced thin easily!.
Hot smoked salmon actually cooks the salmon, in hot smoking the salmon is almost always seasoned, and sometimes cured before smoking!. With hot smoking the flesh tends to flake rather than slice!.

With the different salmon preparations there are tons of different flavor combinations that can be used!. Dill, and Lemon are probably the most commonly used ingredients!.
