Half of our large family loves it, the other half hates it!. I'm crazy about it myself!. And yes, it is a staple!. If you don't believe it just try googling Thanksgiving side dishes and try to find something that doesn't mention it! LOL!.

So funny you should bring this up!. This poor little side dish has caused MAJOR arguments in our family this year!. I'm in charge of making it every year, along with several other dishes, and someone decided we shouldn't have it because she didn't like it!. When the fam found out, my phone was ringing like crazy wanting to know why it wasn't going to be at Thanksgiving!. Love it or hate it!.!.!.!.if it's part of the tradition!.!.!.don't mess with it or you'll have a mutiny! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I never used to like it until I tried it with cheese in it!. It is sooo good!. I follow the directions on the back of the french fried onions can except I add shredded cheddar cheese!. I buy an 8oz bag of cheese and I mix about half into the green beans mixture and I put the other half on top about 15 minutes before it's done and let it get brown!. YummmmWww@FoodAQ@Com

I LOVE Green Bean Casserole!. I'm latin so all i get every year is potatoe salad, rice with pigeon peas, pork, turkey and ham!. Green Bean Casserole really isn't a staple so i love it whenever it's available since it's different from what i'm used to on the holidays!. and i'm making it this year :) Www@FoodAQ@Com

Then skip it!. These "traditions" are never too old!.

I've noticed how the canned cranberry jelly evolved from being lame to being classic!. Even serving it on a plate so the can shape of the jelly isn't disturbed! That was maybe 30 years!. So much for tradition!.

If you're having guests or cooking for family, just make what you think is tasty and appropriate!. If you're alone, you can skip the turkey entirely!.

I don't get it either!. I am not a fan!. I prefer broccoli but my sister in law prefers brussel sprouts!. I don't care, as long as I don't have to make it!

I think some foods become traditions and then you have to have them, just because they bring memories back to you!. My father-in-law always has to have canned cranberry sauce or it just isn't Thanksgiving for him!. Granted, he is the ONLY one who eats it, and he only eats one slice!. He eats a small slice of the jelled and then a big bunch of the homemade stuff, but the man has GOT to have it!.!.!.so it will be on the table for him on Thursday!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

On holidays I try and make all the children's favorite!.!.!.and this year my Daughter Suzanne requested green bean casserole(odd because she is an avid veggie hater)!.!.!.!.but,in truth I equate Green bean casserole with those "souper" meals campbell soup touts!.you know those ones where you add creamed soups to rice and bake!.to me they are a gooey mess!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think its an exceptionally yummy dish however I can say that for most of the food I eat on Thanksgiving!. I don't LOVE turkey and stuffing but it is tradition and I always look forward to the dishes we eat every year because of the memories they bring!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love green bean casserole!. But not the kind you're thinking about!. Our green bean casserole includes green beans bunched up, wrapped in bacon, topped with cream of mushroom and cheez wiz, and then baked!. YUM!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I know what you mean!. Not fond of the traditional recipe!. I like green beans but I saute fresh green beans with shallots, garlic and add a splash or two of white wine and a few tablespoons of butter!. Very tasty!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
