Are yukon gold potatoes the same as yellow potatoes?!
I have a recipe for mashed yukon gold potatoes!. I couldn't find them at my local grocery store, when I asked the produce guy he pointed me to the "yellow" potatoes!. I bought them, but I'm not sure I purchased the right type of potato for my recipe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The yukon gold potato was bred from a mix of white potato and and a South American yellow potato at the University of Guelph!. So technically, the yukon gold is native to Canada, though not really a natural vegetable!.
As for mashing potatoes, the yellow potato should work just as well, since the yukon gold was developed to substitute the lack of yellow potatoes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Potatoes differ by skin and flesh colors, but more importantly by starch content!. The reason some mashed potatoes are sticky and pasty is because the wrong potatoes are used!. You will find out the hard way, unfortunately if your generic yellow potatoes are actually yukons or not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
