Answers:
It's no big deal just place your bird in a clean and sanitized plastic bag and seal the bag w/ a twist tie
Plan B and the legal method for defrosting a turkey :
You may need a bathtub or a laundry sink to do it in
What you need to do is to elevate a large picket or pail above a drain so that water running out of the bucket runs freely down the drain !.
You can span the drain using scrap pieces of 1x2 to rest your bucket on
A cleaned and sanitized joint compound bucket works
Place the bucket elevated over the drain Place your turkey in the bucket ==>> leave the turkey in it's original packaging
Fill the bucket with cold water and then leave the water running so that the water in the bucket is continually over-flowing >all you need is a trickle of running water
The reason that you need a bathtub or a laundry sink is b/c you need enough space under the faucet to get the bucket under!.
>>
Note
: To use bleach as a sanitizing solution the correct ratio is 1TBS of unscented household bleach per gallon of water and allow it to rest for two minutes and then air dry!.!.!.!.do not rinse

AND !.!.!.!.get that bird out of that hot water asap!!
One more thing :that bird will float so you want to come up with a way of weighing it down so that it's all submerged
Enjoy dinner

I do this every year, I just put it in a roasting pan or in sink in cold water overnight, but be very careful, that whole salmanella thing comes into play here if the meat gets too warm, make sure that the turkey stays covered in the cold water to prevent any side getting too warm, get up and change the cold water in the middle of the night to be on the safe side, but be prepared anyway for a turkey still frozen somewhat in the middle, but cooking will take care of that, it'll get done, they always do somehow, even with errors!. My Family still to this day makes fun of me for all the neck and liver bags that had to be pulled out just behind the stuffing, usually the last person to cut a pc of turkey from it or stuffing from it, they'd walk into the room with the bag and everyone would crack up laughing, knowing it was me, AHhh Yeah, Family Traditions, but my Eldest Daughter is cooking the Turkey this year, I've been put on a slight reprieve from the main course project, I guess!. I know it's told not to do so, but I've never had problems or gotten sick and I've been cooking turkeys for as long as I was old enough to cook for myself!.
I pulled mine out and leave it out for a few hours!.
Thawing in water will work too, but I left mine out for about 6 hours yesterday then brined it overnight!. Soaking in the cool water over night finished the thawing process, but a 20lbs turkey is going to take a while!.
I'd leave it out for a while!.!.!.!. then put it in water!.

I went ahead and put my turkey in the oven tonight to cook on very low heat all night and then I will turn it up in the morning!. It was also still slightly frozen!. I heard Paula Deene talking about doing that, so I'm trying it!. I've got the oven set on 250 now and I'll get up a couple times during the night to check it, but it should be fine!. It's not supposed to matter if it's still a bit frozen when you put it in the oven!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Put it in the sink and fill with cold water!. change the water every 30-40 minutes!. This will takew a few hours and you can either stay up tonight and do it or get up early and start it!.
Advice for next year if you have troubles with it thawing!. Do NOT simmer it in the plastic wrap it comes in!. It is not meant to be cooked in there!.
also don't listen to the answer that said something about cooking it in the plastic wrap it comes in!!!!!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

SERIOULSLY, DON'T MAKE YOUR WHOLE FAMILY GO TO THE ER ON TURKEY DAY!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
first of all, DO NOT LISTEN TO CHERI, you should NEVER thaw a turkey in hot water, always cold, so listen to to first answer, and you should change the water every few hours, that is the CORRECT way to more quickly thaw a turkey!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Fill your sink with cool water and place the turkey in the water!. Every 30 minutes, change the water and flip the turkey!. As another answer said, don't listen to the chick telling you to put it on the stove!. Such a bad idea!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Take the wrapper off, put in sink of cold water, I cover the bird with wet paper towel, no need to change the water, if you leave it in the wrapper,it will not be thawed by morningWww@FoodAQ@Com
You haven't said how long it has been out of the freezer!.
Your best shot is to thaw it in the tub with cold water
Do not take it out of the bag!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
