im no expert!.but u cant go wrong with a stack method!.--where the bottom is a larger round gradually getting smaller until you reach the top!.--now a real trick so it stays sturdy is to use waxed cardboard between the layers( when cake is cooled cut to fit--flop the next layer on top)--this makes it easier to transport, and easier to serve portions!.--note the circle of board slightly smaller than the cake!.--frosting will cover it anyway!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I made my daughters 3 tiers!. I used a xmas cake recipe i think I made the ingredients times another half of the amount added some brandy or whiskey forget which one about half a cup to the mixed fruit and used 3 baking tins the larger one I baked first then made the mixture again for the next 2 !. I bought round covered solid doily things that you sit cakes on the size of each cake from a kitchen utensil shop !.I iced each cake with bought roll on icing then iput 4 skewers in the bottom cake stood up so the next layer woudn't lop side!. then the silver cover doily plate then the next cake on top!. I bought some nice ribbon Tartan actually as the page boy had a tartan waist coat and the bridesmaid had aa tartan bow at the back of her royal blue dress, for around the bottom of each layer which also hides any icing thats not perfectly layed on !. Then on the day I placed fresh flowers on the top!. I was scared about doing it but saved heaps of money and everyone said it was beautiful !. i made the cake about a month before and wrapped it well in an air tight container and I did the icing a few days before !. I bought a wonderful air tight container from the kitchen shop whichhad a high round top and could also be used for the mixing bowl!. Ive used that container lots of times since!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
