I've never made one, but!.!.!.!.!.
I'm guessing you would make a normal vanilla cake (one that has quite a liquid batter and is quite pale), and then divide into lots of small bowls!. Add good quality food colouring to the different bowls to get the desired colours!. To get the really bright colours, you cannot use natural colours, the 2nd picture may have been done using natural food colours!.
To assemble the cake: add small amounts of each coloured batter into your greased and lined tin!. Use a skewer to lightly swirl the colours together, be careful to swirl, not mix!. Bake as per cake recipe instructions
Good luck with this project - those cakes look great!. I might have to give it a go myself :D
Edit:
I just had a thought - maybe instead of blobs and swirling, you could try putting the batter into small bags with the corner cut off, and drizzle the different colours in concentric rings to get the look they have!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

hellolii!. I just looked up the link you gave, and I freaked out!. I know we are here to help you where we can and maybe one of the others is a perfectionist at this, but does not look simple for a novice!. My advise buy one before you have a break down!. Unless you have plenty of time and patience on your hands, and no little ones biting at your ankles!.
