This is my husbands grandfather's recipe - so it has stood the test of time!. :) I don't add the sugar, as I don't like sweet scones, but they are good with or without!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My recipe is at home, but I'll give you what I think are my proportions!.
2 c flour
pinch of salt
4 tsp of baking powder
1/2 c butter or hard margarine
1 egg
1/2 c milk
mix flour, salt and baking powder together!.
start with cold butter, cut into flour!.!.!.!.you want to be left with pea size pieces of butter
mix egg and milk together
add to flour and mix until just combined
do not overwork
dough should be a little sticky
if it's too dry, add a little more milk
I usually put my dough back in refrigerator to allow the butter to cool again!.
then you can either drop from a spoon
or
lighty flour your work surface, then pat/roll out very gently!. cut with a glass or biscuit cutter!.
I prefer to drop them from a spoon because the less you handle them, the more tender they will be!.
Usually bake at 400 for about 13 mins!.
However, all ovens are different!.
You can add anthing to this mixture
I sometimes add a little coconut, raisins and sugar
oragen zest and cranberries would be good
Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) has a gret recipe!.!.!.!.I have not made them, but the recipe looks great!.
