Answers:
Make sure the cupcakes are cool before frosting!.

Add a bit more milk or cream to the frosting as it is probably too thick!.

Note: Stir the canned frosting before using!. This helps loosen the frosting up so it becomes more spreadable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I never use store bought frosting, I find it too thick to use!. I would definitely try and make your own frosting, it's very easy and tastes better than most store bought frostings!. Just remember to always cool the cupcakes COMPLETELY before frosting, otherwise the cupcakes will crumble!. To make the store bought frosting a little thinner, you can always heat it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or add a little milk or cream, not a lot though or it will become too runny to use!. also, you could try piping the frosting onto the cupcake instead of "smearing" it on with a frosting utensil!. Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The cupcakes are crumbling!? Or the frosting is crumbling!? I know buttercream frosting can sometimes crack when stored in the refrigerator!. It depends on the type of frosting and the method of storage!.!.!.!.!.more details needed

ETA: I don't know why the cupcakes would crumble!. I rarely use canned frosting, but I would stir it!. Maybe you could refrigerate the frosting first!? Your cupcakes have had enough time to cool completely!. Does this always happen, or is it just this one time!? Maybe something's wrong with your cupcakes!. Are the cupcakes from a mix too!? If it is, maybe the mix is too old!? I don't know!.!.!.!.the CupcakeQueen is STUMPED!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

betty crocker is no good, use a diff brand!. if its still happening try adding a little more oil to the batter!. if its still happening try brushing the tops of the cupcakes with sum simple syrup, equal parts sugar and water, dissolved, after they are cooled!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
