I'm making a ham today and split pea soup tomorrow. Need ideas, please.?!
I have a spiral cut ham that's ready for dinner (7-12 hours from now) and I've boiled ham hocks already and cleaned and strained them for the soup!. I promised my friend some soup as he really likes mine!.
Should I cut off the portions of ham that we plan on eating and then cook them with pineapple and boil the bone, or should I cook the whole ham and boil it later!?
I would like the soup to have sit for 12-24 hours before my friend gets it as he eats it at work!. I know I have all day Sunday to finish up the soup, but I didn't plan on standing in the kitchen on Sunday!. I really promised him the soup this weekend and not Monday!.
Is there a difference in cutting the spiral ham prior to baking!? Or should I just bake it!?
Thanks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Bake your whole ham, all at once, forget
the peas, or serve them as a side dish,
but baked ham should be served with Boston
Baked beans!.
If you don't know how, any good cook book
will tell you, all the recipes are the same!. Bon apetite!
How is your dog doing,
here he is fine and drawing quite a
lot of attention, take a look in the stream,
but remember not to bake the dog instead
of the ham! Love, Iain xx
Don't forget to batter the ham with molasses,
and brush the pealed ham every half hour!.
Keep your ham whole, only pealed, use the pealing to flavour your peas, if desired!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I thought that spiral ham was already cooked!. do they do it differently whereever you are!? Around hear spiraql hams are usually tooth achingly sweet and for my taste would make lousy split pea soup!. myself I just buy a ham steak or two and cube them up!. I also take 1/2 the soup into a seperate container, no meat or bones, and hit it with a stick blender or put it in a regular blender and then add it back!. I like mine cold the next day!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I also find it confusing!. Keep it simple!. Bake the ham!. It's already cut so I don't know why you ask about cutting it prior to baking!. If it has a bone in it why did you boil ham hocks!. Just use the ham you are baking!. Trim the meat off when you're done eating it and boil the bone with the peas!. I would use whole yellow dried peas rather than split ones, they are much nicer in a soup!. Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Try to coocking another food!.
Example, cream of calabaza, soung good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

U no what the idea is to invite me over cause that sounds soo good Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm a little confused about what you're asking!. If you want the ham for dinner, bake it and have dinner!. Don't cut off pieces to cook!. Then use the bone and whatever meat is left to it to make your pea soup!. Use the amount of water that is recommended on the package of split peas and put your ham bone in it!. No need to boil the bone for a long time before adding the peas!.
I don't know what you did to the hocks, but if the meat is already tender, then don't add it to the soup until it is about half done!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
