What is a gluten-free substitute for breadcrumbs?!

Question: What is a gluten-free substitute for breadcrumbs!?
I have a recipe for meatballs, but it uses breadcrumbs!. This isn't an option for us because we are gluten-intolerant!. Does anybody know what I can substitute for breadcrumbs that is gluten-free!? (We don't have gluten-free bread!.) Would almond meal work!? Gluten free flour!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Corn Flake crumbs, Potato Chips, Rice Crackers and even crushed rice krispies cereal!. I should say I am a former professional chef and have use all the above in various recipes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I get a packaged GF bread crumb, I can't remember the name brand, but they are in my grocer's GF section!. Brown Rice GF Bread Crumbs, I will add seasonings to them!. We've used them for eggplant parm!. and I've added oregano, garlic powder and pepper!. So, you can add whatever spices and herbs you like that will work with whatever you're making!.
My mom has used broken up GF pretzels which was tasty (I think she made baked artichokes!.!.!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

In the article linked below I found this:

'Recipes calling for bread crumbs may be translated into gluten-free by using leftover gluten-free breads and crackers, and even baked items, processed into crumbs!. Cooked rice or potatoes may also be substituted in many recipes calling for bread crumbs!.'

I hope this helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Gluten-free flour should work, but try soaking it in a little milk!. Doing that (the milk-soaking) with bread is a classic Italian technique and it makes the meatballs more moist than the breadcrumbs anyway!. Let us know how it turns out!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

i once bought gluten free pretzels for my daughter to use for her breaded eggplant recipe!. i put the pretzels in a plastic bag and crushed them into bread crumbs and her eggplant parm was so great!. couldnt tell the difference! good luck to you :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
