Answers:
When I make chicken and dumplings in the crock pot I cook my chicken first, and then take it out to cool and then break in pieces and put the pieces back in!. Then I use jiffy mix (you can use any biscuit mix you want) I use 2 cups of mix and 2/3 cup of milk and drop them in by teaspoonfuls and put the lid back on the crock pot and turn temp to high and cook for 30 minutes and they come out cooked and fluffy!. I tried the canned biscuits but they never cook completely!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not sure if it's like Cracker Barrel's BUT most people use refrigerated biscuits as the dumplings!.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

"This is an easy slow cooker recipe that cooks while you are at work! It is wonderful on a cold, snowy day!. I have four children who are picky eaters, and they LOVE this! Enjoy!"

INGREDIENTS
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons butter
2 (10!.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
1 onion, finely diced
2 (10 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough, torn into pieces

DIRECTIONS
Place the chicken, butter, soup, and onion in a slow cooker, and fill with enough water to cover!.
Cover, and cook for 5 to 6 hours on High!. About 30 minutes before serving, place the torn biscuit dough in the slow cooker!. Cook until the dough is no longer raw in the center!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that the reason you can't find a good Crock-pot recipe for this is because the pots don't get hot enough to cook the dumplings properly!. If you must use a crock-pot, cook the chicken and veggies and everything in it all day long, then right before you serve it, put it in another pot on the stove and bring it to a boil!. Then cut the biscuits into small pieces (at least 4 pieces for every bisquit, if you use the big ones, make them smaller), and drop them in!. They'll be nice and fluffy and soak up all the chicken soup!. Mmm!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I always use refrigerator biscuits for my dumplings!. I have never done it in the crockpot, I always just do them in a pot on the stove!. I keep mine simple!.I boil 3 boneless breasts in water, bay leaves, salt, pepper and thyme!. when they are done, I shred them with a fork, and put the shredded chicken in a pot with 4 cups of chicken broth, some seasonings and when boiling I toss in my biscuits, after I have cut them up a bit!. YUMMY!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The chicken can stew in a crockpot, but I find dumpling-making best done on the stove top!. Transfer your chicken and broth, any veggies, whatever, to a duch oven!. Cut up your canned biscuits into 4ths (half if you got the little cans)!. Bring broth to a simmer, where bubbles barely break the surface!. Drop dumplings in, 1 at a time, making sure each is coated w/ stock!. Put on lid, reduce heat tolow, and set timer for 20 minutes!. NO PEEKING!. when timer goes off, stir and serve!Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are not as good as homemade and they do not taste like Cracker Barrels!. I use the recipe on the Bisquick box!. I also add a can of cream of chicken soup after the dumplings are done and a little poultry seasoning, salt and pepper!. That is about as close to Cracker Barrels as you can get!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i have tied to make biscuit dumplings several times, always thinking that idid something wrong!. im not impressed at all!. actually the last time i made them we ended eating around them!.they just dont get hard enough!. they stay soft and fall apart easily!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

mom doesn't use a crock pot!. she uses a pot!. boils chicken, removes and uses the stock to drop in pieces of biscuit!.
they come out as big as you put in!. hers are broke in fourths!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not sure that a crock pot is hot enough!. The chicken broth should be boiling when you drop them!. Try the bisquick recipe!. They are fluffy!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

My son and I I hate cracker barrel!!!!!!! Why!?!?!?!? Because I was raised until I was 13 by one of the BEST southern cooks, MY MOM before she died ever to walk this earth!!!!!!! I didn't appreciate what a fantastic cook she was as a kid, but I sure do miss it now!!!!!!! She would cook enough food to feed the ENTIRE church congregation on special occasions!!!!!! She absolutely LOVED to cook!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People STILL brag on her cooking and she's been dead 25 years!. Now with that being said, She made me help her pretty much of the time, even if it was just cutting stuff up for her!. She died before I got to learn exact recipes!. But she is still famous for her home made chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, sausage gravy, baked ham, home made biscuits, ANYTHING home - made southern cooking, also, her 7 layer apple stack cake, cobblers, strawberry shortcakes-made in these HUGE aluminum foil pans, canned EVERYTHING--we had a garden, fresh meat, several fruit trees, and what we didn't have, we could go pick like blackberries!.!.!.

I was NEVER fond of chicken and dumplings because it is very filling, plus, bad for you--But, I do make a thick chicken noodle recipe, that so help me-it's NOTHING compared to chicken and dumplings--BUT is AlWAYS asked for seconds and to me-taste just as good!.

I buy the chicken leg quaters and 3-4 cans of cream of chicken soup, and noodles - wide - not small!.!.!.I cook the chicken and once it's done, cooked, and de-boned, I cook the noodles in the broth, making sure you took off the foam-fat gunk as the chicken cook-so none if left in this process!.!.Once the noddles are done, DO NOT drain them without saving what you drained!!!!!!!!! You want to mix the broth with the cream of chicken soup after you add the de-boned chicken back in!.!.!.USE judgement on thickness!.!.!.I don't salt and pepper anything, I let people do that themselves---but a little salt and papper is needed to this for the best taste!. CHEAP, EASY, and NOT near as hard as home made chicken dumplings!.

Even if you do still want to make the chicken dumplings, try this-you won't regret it!. I have secrets for ham-deserts, many home-made things that is much easier and cheaper than the original and you can't tell the difference in taste!. My peanut butter pie needs to be put on the market-it will melt in your mouth!!!!!!! Mom died before she could teach me that!.!.!.but she would be proud of what I learned on my own!.!.!.Now, I am a great cook, but I HATE cooking!.!.!.LOL unlike my mom who lived for it!!!!!!!!!!! I make the best homemade vegetable soup you will ever eat!. *wink* GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!! Email me if you would like me to share anything with you!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
