Best apples for baking?!

Question: Best apples for baking!?
I plan to bake some holiday gifts, I would like to make the apple cake that is made in the canning jars!. I have the recipe but it doesn't state which apples to use!. I don't know if just using Granny Smith would make it to tart or if I should use a combination of tart and sweet!. I need some apple suggestions!. ThanksWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Granny Smith and Jonathan are the best to cook with!. I mix the two because the granny smith is so tart!. McIntosh apples get very mushy when you cook with them, and Galas are best for eating raw or in a salad!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Honestly if you are baking a cake then the sugar will sweeten whatever you add into it!. I almost exclusively use Granny Smiths and Galas and I have never had dissatisfactory results!. Just use what you have on hand and try to avoid mixing varieties if possible!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Granny Smiths make excellent baking apples!.

BTW if you plan to bake and "seal" your cakes in jars this is no longer recommended!. The process is unsafe unless it is done in a commercial kitchen!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Granny Smiths are the best for cooking!. If your recipe has sugar in it, there is nothing to worry about, but if you're still unsure, add an extra tablespoon or two!.

I have always used Green Granny Smith apples and I think they work the best!. Sprinkle some lemon juice, cinnamon and sugar on them for apple cakes!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
