To be perfectly honest, I can't think of a single potato dish that doesn't go with steak!.

That said, here are a few ideas:

Potato Leek Soup!. There are many recipes out there!. Alton Brown has a really tasty one:
http://tinyurl!.com/68ktw4

A chunky potato soup would go really well!. Think beef stew, but the meat is separate!. Here is one recipe (I haven't tried it yet, sorry, but this one is highly rated):
http://tinyurl!.com/6nwwnr

Potatoes au Gratin is another good one, there is a reason it makes it onto a lot of holiday tables:
http://tinyurl!.com/57na5t

Then there are the traditional stand-bys:

Baked Potatoes!. Clean some potatoes, poke them with a couple holes, lightly coat them in oil, stick them on a pan and into the oven at 350 degrees for 60-75 minutes or until done!. Serve with your preferred toppings!.

Potato Skins!. Bake potatoes as above, cut them in half, spoon out the insides to your desired thickness!. Grill or fry them (if you want to fry them, make the bacon for them while they are baking, cook the bacon until crispy, and reserve the grease) until crisp, 2-4 minutes!. Fill with cheese, top with crumbled bacon!. Broil until the cheese melts!. Serve with sour cream, chives, and whatever other toppings you desire!.

Mashed potatoes!. There are too many options here to go into!. Depending on what you prefer to do, if you like to cook from a box or make them from scratch, and what you like to serve them with!.

Then there are the frozen, bake-in-10-minutes options, like french fries and tater tots!. Maybe not very traditionally Christmas-y, but you could dip them in brown gravy instead of ketchup to change the feel!. And, if you have any children, they'll probably love the idea!.

Not one of these has garlic, so I think you should be safe with any of them!.

As for converting, a cup is 8 ounces!. Here is a site that should help you:
