Answers:
place butter in a plastic bag, seal and place bag in large bowl of hot water!. Let hot water trickle in bowl constantly!. Should take just a few minutes and you will not change the consistency as you would by meltingWww@FoodAQ@Com

if you dont need it for a while( the hour) all you have to do is take it out of fridge!.!.!.it will soften plenty in an hours time at room temp!. if by chance its not put on plate in micro for only like 15 secs or you will have a puddle of butter!.

you can also just cut it up and mash it a little bit at a time!.!.it wil be just fine!.

been there done this!. :)

you dont want to melt the butter the frosting will not come out the same!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

try using margarine instead of butter, or butter spread!. its like soft ice cream, doesn't come out of the fridge rock hard!. You can soften butter in the microwave as suggested but put it on defrost setting and check frequently!. This prevents the outside getting runny whilst the inside stays cold and hard!.
What a kind daughter you have!. Happy birthday!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cut it into small pieces, microwave but on "defrost", for as long as needed!. That way, it will soften rather than melt!. You can also do this to make life easier when you are making cake mix and you need to cream sugar and butter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you microwave it only put it in for 10 seconds you DO Not want it melted!.

If you need it with in an hour, it will soften, put it next to but not on the stive!. Heat rediating from the oven wil help your butter soften!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you don't have a microwave, put it in a sealed zip lock and put in warm water for a few minutes!.!.!.not hot water!.

Happy Birthday!Www@FoodAQ@Com

put it in the microwave and watch it while it melts so you can stop it in timeWww@FoodAQ@Com

I always melt mine in the microwave, but you could also set in on the stove top while the oven heats up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with Jamie, put it in the microwave for about 10 secs, but check after 5 secs!. You don't want it to melt, just softenWww@FoodAQ@Com

Cut it up into cubes (as small as you like) and then microwave in short bursts till it's how you want it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

slow heat it on the stove burner at low flame!.
