I need ideas for a Mechanical diet?!

Question: I need ideas for a Mechanical diet!?
My 81 year old Father in law is coming home from the hospital tomorrow and he had orders to eat a strict Mechanical diet, which means soft, easy to swallow foods!. can you give me some ideas of foods to include and to avoid!? I looked it up on the internet and different sites are giving different answers--like one says to avoid rice and one says that rice is ok!! Which is it!?
To rice!? or NOT to rice!? LOL
anyway--his Doctor is Spanish and my Mother in law has been speaking to him--BUT I do the groceries and the cooking--I want him to LIKE what he eats and at the same time--I don't want to feed him something that will not be good for him! Has anyone had to do this!? The nurse says a Mechanical diet, but some foods have to be Pureed ! Thanks everyone! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I used to work in a hospital in dietary!. A mechanical diet is simply a soft, ground food diet!.
He can eat rice, noodles, chopped soft meats, fruits sauces like apple sauce, pear sauce, or soft poached fruits!. Avoid strawberries, or any fruits or vegetables iwth seeds, they may irritate his stomach!. All veggies must be cooked well!.
Me might like salisbury steak, meatloaf, ground beef or ground turkey steak chopped up fine, or ground with a little gravy is always a favorite!. Avoid leafy salad type foods!. No crunchy veggies, all softly cooked foods will work nicely!. Mac and cheese, ground chicken and noodles, that type of food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
