It is definitely Hoi Sin sauce, and you probably had it with a few sliced chillies on top and a sprinkle of chopped peanuts!. I love it!. And those cold rolls, are they fantastic or what! You can buy the wrappers nearly everwhere in Australia, hope you can too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
i believe what you're talking about it kecap manis, or indonesian soy sauce!. it's not salty and has a sweet and tangy flavour!. you can buy it premade, but if you can't find any you can make the equivalent out of soy sauce and molassas and a couple other things!. recipes are easy to find, and it's an easy sauce to make!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Thai Peanut sauce
1/3 cup hot water
2/3 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup dry sherry
Mix all ingredients until smooth!.
When I made it, I did not use the sherry and it was fine!. I am assuming this is what you had!?!?!? We had fresh rolls today at our fave Thai place and this is what they serve!. Best wishes!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
