Yeah, I would do what I can to get home on your lunch hour and turn it down, and add a little water!. I would rather skip lunch and have great stew for dinner then the alternative!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Your vegetables will probably be gone, but the beef will be delicious and tender!. You can parboil some more vegetables this evening when you get home, add to the stew and let cook for about 30 minutes and your stew will be delicious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
That's an awful long time on high!. The liquid may cook out and it may burn or worse!. It might be okay, but to be on the safe side I suggest you try to get home and lower it or see if a friend can pop in and do that for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You'll definitely have a "bark" around the inside of the crock!. That may scorch a little!.
Just be careful not to "scrape the sides , serve and stir the middle!. Then check to see if it is really burnt on the side , or just dried out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A lot will be evaporated, like half the stock!. I would suggest that if you still want stew, go home and turn it to low!. Otherwise you will be picking out the beef, mixing it with bbq sauce and throwing out the veggies!.
This happened to my wife two weeks ago!. Every veggie that was above liquid and touching the side was burnt!. The only thing I could save was the meat and I made BBQ Beef sandwiches!. She was pissed but it was good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

8 hours is going to over cook it most likely!. If you can runhome at lunch, or even have someone tunr it down for you that would be the best option!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
sure you can the meat will be tender and juicy and the veggies will be out of this world!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
If you can - GO HOME and turn it to low!. You might go home to a big burnt waste of a stew!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Probably not!. It will not start a fire, but it will boil dry and burn!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
