Difference between minced onion (ground up) and onion powder?!

Question: Difference between minced onion (ground up) and onion powder!?
Obviously there's a difference in consistency (minced flakes vs!. powder), but is there any diff!. if you grind up the minced onion into a powder!? I have several recipes for taco seasoning mix that call for minced onion and minced garlic!. When I used the minced o & g it doesn't stay mixed up w/ the other ingredients, so I've been blending the minced o & g into powders!. Just wondering if there would be any difference in just using onion+garlic powders to save the step of grinding it myself!. Of course, I'd first determine what the minced onion amount (1/4 c) converts to when ground (3 Tblsp!.)!. ThanksWww@FoodAQ@Com

For the way you're using it, powdering the minced dehydrated ingredients, it doesn't make any difference!. You're actually making onion and garlic powder, as you thought!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your recipes are probably looking for real minced onions and garlic would be my guess!. Not the ones that come in the little plastic or glass bottles!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cynthia is correct!. But I'd like to add that when a recipe calls for "minced garlic" or "minced onion", it usually means fresh garlic or onion that has been finely finely finely chopped with a knife!. You might have better luck with the fresh product instead of the powder or dried minced flakes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

use about 1/4 less if using the premade powdered herbs!. That is about the air space difference in the powdered and dry flaked minced products!.

I do that a lot when I am getting down to the bottom of the jar of stuff in my pantry!.

Mix each recipe for the seasoning mix according to your tastes anyway! If you want more or less of any one item, do it! I leave out all the garlic powders and other garlic measures!. I don't happen to like the taste of garlic, but others will double it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
