A question about red onions?!

Question: A question about red onions!?
Is it normal for red onions to be a little black on the inside!? I usually eat yellow onions but I went with red this time and there is a slightly blackish tint on the inside of them!. I cut out and discarded the more concentrated area of black and I figure the blackish tint means they are starting to go bad, but if it's only a slight tint then they are probably still safe to eat right!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
