How to sweeten canned diced tomatoes?!

Question: How to sweeten canned diced tomatoes!?
When I make tomatoe sauce, like for lasagna, I use canned diced tomatoes and they are sort of tart when you bite into them in the food!.
I've tried adding a bit of sugar, like a tsp per fat can and they still are bitter!. I've cooked them for 24 hours but still bitter!.
Anyone have a reliable proceedure for sweetening their diced tomatoes!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I sweat an onion with some garlic in a small amount of olive oil, I add pureed tomatoes and whole peeled romas that I squeeze by hand into the pan!. It may be the diced tomatoes you are using!. Try a different brand or get the whole ones, I don't seem to have a problem with them!. I have heard of adding a small amount of grape jelly, it's a "secret" ingredient for a lot of cooks!. Try it, you may like it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sauce for lasagna:

Brown 1 lb of sweet or hot or a combo of italian sausage!.
Drain well!.

Add:
1 clove of garlic
1 Tablespoon dried basil
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
1-1lb can of tomatoes
2-6oz cans of tomato paste
1 cup water

Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes!.

This is very flavorful and a bit sweet r/t the tomato paste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

since it's for a lasagna, i suggest grating in half a carrot into the marinara sauce!. it adds sweetness and you really can't taste the carrot!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

add a bit of sugar or water to cut the acid!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
