About how many grams in a teaspoon?!

Question: About how many grams in a teaspoon!?
Please answer :) :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Mark and Ruth are absolutely correct!. Asking how many grams are in a teaspoon would be the same as asking how many inches are in an hour!.

Try to look at it this way: A cup of lead pellets and a cup of feathers both occupy 8 fluid ounces of volume!. The pellets are going to weigh more than 8 ounces on a scale!. The feathers are going to weigh a lot less than 8 ounces on a scale!.

You can calculate the answer if you know the density of the ingredient you are measuring!. Many websites have this info and will do weight/volume equivalencies!.

This is from http://www!.gourmetsleuth!.com !.!.!.!. just so you can see the difference in volume/weight:

500 grams of mini marshmallows = 10 cups
500 grams of flour = 4 cups
500 grams of sugar = 2!.5 cups

(If you tell me what ingredient you are trying to measure, I'll gladly look it up for you)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mark is right!. A teaspoon of sugar will weigh more than a teaspoon of flour!.

The teaspoon is, as he says, is a measure of volume not of weight!.

Grams are a measure of weight!.

Think of it this way!. There are two boxrs exacly the same size!. One is
filled with 4 bricks and the other is filled with lightly packed down feathers which would you rather carry up a mile long hill!?

The volume of the boxes is the same!. The weights are different!.

I hope this helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Grams is a weight measurement whereas teaspoon is a volume measurement!. It would depend on the substance you are measuring!.

There are 28 grams in an ounce!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
