making scones, need 1 cup of buttermilk and i cant go to the store!. i only have 3/4 of a cup!.!.!. exactly how much of what do i need to make up for a 1/4 cup buttermilk!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have never bought buttermilk--I would never use the whole container, and it would just be wasted!. Add milk to 1 tablespoon of white distilled vinegar until both ingredients measure 1 cup!. Let stand about 5 minutes!. You will see the milk thicken like buttermilk!. Then measure the amount needed for the recipe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

try pouring some sweet milk and adding either some lemon juice or vinegar to the milk to turn it sour!. should be ok substitution!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would try to use plain yogurt!. That would be the closest to a butter milk culture!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
