Why does cookies call for baking powder??!
hey im trying to find a good peanut butter cookie recipe and i found one i thot looked good nd i have all the ingredients except fot the baking soda!. Why do ookies need this ingredient!?!? will it be ok if i dont add this ingredient!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Whoa, make sure you know the difference between baking powder and baking soda!. If you're using baking soda, it's going to have two effects -- it might help darken the cookies as they bake, and it will react with acid in the dough to create CO2 and therefore lift!. (If there is nothing appreciably acidic in the batter, it's probably for the former purpose!.) If it's baking powder, on the other hand, it's definitely there for lift and you do not want to leave it out unless you want your cookies to come out as sodden, chewy lumps!.
I would say overall don't leave it out unless you're definitely experimenting!. Baking recipes can be unforgiving as there's rather a lot of chemistry involved, and baking soda is cheap!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if you leave out the baking powder your cookies will fail to rise and turn out hard and heavy!. it is the powder that causes to reaction to make the cookies rise light and stay right!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
