Question: I've heard you can use applesauce in place of butter in cookie recipes!?
I don't have butter at my house, and I have no way to get it!. I do have oil, but I'd heard that it's possible to use applesauce in the place of butter in cookie recipes!. Has anyone done this!? Does it work!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Yes I've done it!. It will change the texture a lot (cookies won't be chewy or anything like that, will be somewhat cake like) and will alter the flavor a tiny bit if your cookies are fairly unflavored (like sugar cookies or something)!. Just use the same amount of applesauce for butter!. Be aware though, that the cookies will not spread and will come out in whatever shape you put them in as so you might want to shape the cookies a bit before you bake them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It does work, and it makes the cookie much healthier for you, but using applesauce will affect the texture of the cookie!. Note that applesauce is usually substituted in cakes and muffins, not cookies, so the result may differ from the recipe!. But it is worth a try!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have only heard of usung it in place of oil!.

Butter is a little more solid and would need a thicker sunstance in my opinion!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ive also only using apple sauce to replace oilWww@FoodAQ@Com

I always use applesauce in my cookies in place of butter!. The cookies do turn out a little drier though, but much healthierWww@FoodAQ@Com
