I am really getting Frustrated.?!

Question: I am really getting Frustrated!.!?
I was asked to make a cake (i have a bakery and i do cakes like you would see on Ace of Cakes) for a tattoo festival in South Carolina!. I was originally asked to do it in February, by the tattoo artist!. Well, she delegated responsibilities to her friends, and the girl that is supposed to be responsible for the cake is being SO wishy-washy!! I can't get a straight answer from her about this thing!. I have cleared my schedule for that whole WEEK so that i will have time to put in to this cake, (lots of details)!. also, she says that the price I gave her is too much!. I told her 500 even, cause I will have to drive all the way to S!.C!. and get a hotel room for the night, (it's 7 hours one way!) plus pay for the gas and all, not to mention the cost of the supplies to MAKE the cake itself and the labor to do it! I think it's a pretty good price!.!.!.Duff Goldman ( Ace of Cakes) doesn't even leave the shop or turn on the oven for less than a thousand! While I am not quite that famous yet, I still feel that I should be able to cover my expenses!.!.!.I do have a family to feed! The event is coming up quickly, (april 18th) and I really need to start getting stuff together! What should I say to this person!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Go to the tattoo artist who originally contracted w/ you!. Without downing her delegate too badly, tell her you need to confirm a few quick things that "whats her name" isn't real sure of, but thatyou need to nail down NOW!.

If the tat artist agrees the price is too much, thank her for considering you, and consider yourself fired and suggest they call the bakery at the local Wal-Mart!. You dont' want to lose money on this deal, and I think your time is very valuable b/c 14 hours in a car/van is 14 hours you can't be doing other cakes for other clients!. I would think you're ruuning on pretty low profit for such a trip at $500 flat!. If they won't pay your price (uh, get a credit card # over the phone before you start!.!.!.!.), you don't want that bizness anyway! Believe me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Give her a deadline!. If she agrees, ask for a non-refundable deposit that will go towards the full price of the cake!. also, always use contracts with details of what the cake should look like, delivery date and time, etc!. signed by both you and your client!. Protects both parties!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

How Many people will be served this $500!.00 cake!? Its' 7 hours away from your home base, and how will this HELP your bakery/business!? This is foolishness on your part -- the flattery is there but not the practicality! SKIP it, unless its worth $500 to you!. In my own town - I would do this in order to advertise - but you have others to consider!. (your family)Www@FoodAQ@Com

When I got married I paid $600 for my cake!. It was a little involved, but nothing like tattoo detail!. It was 3 small tiers and they only had to travel across town!. I think your quote is much more than reasonable, especially when you're clearing your schedule and not bringing in any other income for the whole week!. I would try to at least leave a message with the lady that hired you in the first place!. Do you have a contract, have a deposit!? If you can't reach her and still can't get any answers from the person you're dealing with, I'd tell them both T!.S!. If it's not important enough to them to make sure it's done right, I guess it's not that important!. Let's see if they can get someone else to do it in the meantime!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Boy, she can either have or cake or not!. But she can't be cheap and eat her cake the way she wants it!. Do you have a contract with her!? also, if she doesn't want to pay that much, SHE should drive to you!. She can't expect you to drive 7 hours and turn around and drive another 7 without a pit-stop!. Worst comes to worst, tell her she will need to look else where!. And while you are losing business by telling her to go else where, tell her where she can go that is closer to her!. (They might charge more because of the lateness and no design, so she might stick with you!.) And you won't look like you're being mean by not doing her cake!. She needs to understand that you need to pay for the electricity, switches, etc!. for however long it takes you to make the cake Give her an end date for an answer!. If she doesn't call, call her!. That is all you can do!. And rest assured knowing you've done all you can to help and work with her!.

Good luck and hope it goes well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
