you have to temper the eggs!. this means add them in a slow steady stream into the milk and whisk constantly!.
this may require a hand from another person!. Another trick is to do it over a double boiler!. this means, that instead of having your milk in a pan over the burner, you have a pan full of water!. Bring that water to a boil!. Have a metal pan or bowl over the boiling water and use that to heat your custard!.
