Can you cook rice by itself in the oven?!

Question: Can you cook rice by itself in the oven!?
I hate boiling rice!. They tell you to put twice as much water in as the rice and bring to a boil and cook it on low!. When I do this I keep having to constantly add more water or it would burn!. I have some casseroles where I just put in soup and water and they turn out perfectly!. Is there a way I could just put in water or water and boullion with rice in the oven and have it turn out perfect!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
This might be possible!.

The reason for the twice as much water in as rice is because the rice absorbs the water and poofs!.

You should not have to constantly add more water !.

To cook rice on the stove!.

1 cup of cold water and add 1/2 cup of rice!.
Bring to a boil, stir once and only once, turn to low heat, cover, and let set for 10 to 20 minutes!. Lift lid and water should be absorbed into rice!.

Another way to cook rice is in a skillet:

I think a Non-Stick Skillet is best!.

Put 1 Tablespoon of Butter or Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil or Canola Oil in the skillet, medium heat!. Butter has a higher smoke point, therefore as soon as you see wisps of smoke at the top of the skillet [you need to look at eye level] the butter will have a nutty smell and a light, light golden brown texture, this is where you add the 1/2 cup of rice, then you cook the rice until it has a light golden brown color, as soon as you see this you add the one cup of cold water s-l-o-w-l-y, stir once, cover turn heat down to LOW and let set for 15 to 20 minutes!.

With the Oil, warm the oil, and one thing I have learned is "Cold Oil, Hot Pan, Food No Stick", so if you are going to use oil make sure you take the amount you are going to use and keep it in the fridge for a while!.

Okay, Pour the oil into the warm skillet and let the oil get warm, Olive Oil will have a fragrance to it, not so much the Vegetable and the Canoloa Oil, but still let it get warm to hot, then add the 1/2 cup of rice and let it cook till it is a nice golden brown color, as soon as you see this add the 1 cup of water slowly, stir once, turn heat down to low, cover and let it set for 10 to 15 minutes!.

Sometimes I like to use Chicken Stock or Chicken Broth instead!.
Know there are many different types of rice, I am referring to the long-grain white rice!.

I would start the oven at 400 degrees, in the pan I would add the water, however if you use a boulion cube it is going to have to be dissolved in the water before you put it in the pan and the water with the boulion is going to have to be cold!. Take the pan and add the water or the water with the boulion in it 1 cup, add the 1/2 cup of rice and stir once and put into the stove, as soon as you hear the water beging to boil, reduce the stove temperature to 250 and cover the pan, let it set for 15 to 20 minutes and you should have a cooked rice!.

Rice is mostly a two to one ratio, which means for every two parts of liquid there is one part of rice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
