How do you slice a hard boiled egg and not have the yoke separate from the white?!

Question: How do you slice a hard boiled egg and not have the yoke separate from the white!?
I have a recipe for old fashion egg salad it calls for hard boiled eggs to be sliced thin!. When I do that most of the time the yoke and white separate!. The salad would look nicer on the plate if they didn't come apart!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Put them in the frig for a few hours after you take the shell off before you cut them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The primary problem is friction!. Use a serrated knife and avoid "sawing", try to draw the blade through each slice in one motion: set the knife on the top of the egg with the back of the blade in the center of the egg!. Pull the blade through the slice as you draw it back and down, lowering the blade as you bring it towards you, ending with the tip of the knife on the board and completely through the back and outside of the egg!. Drawing the blade completely through the egg will ensure the yolk has nothing to stick to!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I find slicing hard boiled eggs easier to slice when they are cold!. Egg slicers work well without messing the egg, however slicing hard boiled eggs thin is really not something I've ever had to do!. I'd ask in a deli how it is done!.I would also look in a restaurant supply store for such a thinner slicing gadget for eggs or even just ideas from a worker there!.Peace!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Purple, both those answers are correct, the egg slicer would be you best bet, to get the proper slice you require for your salad!. This can be performed after you have refrigerated the eggs for a while first!.

They other thing is, easy to handle!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can purchase an egg slicer fairly inexpensively!. just google it & you'll see what i mean!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Use a bread knife, dipped for a few seconds in hot water, never fails for me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Get a good knife!. After they have been in fridge for awhile, they will slice better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Get them cold and then slice carefully!Www@FoodAQ@Com
