Cinnamon roll substitutions (allergies)?!
The recipe I'm using calls for raisins and either pecans or walnuts (I can't remember which) for the filling part!. My husband isn't all that crazy about raisins (I can take 'em or leave 'em, haha), and I'm allergic to both pecans and walnuts!. I'm still doing the cinnamon-brown sugar filling in the middle!.
I was wondering what else I may be able to put in the middle!. I was thinking fine chopped apples, but I'm not too sure how that would turn out!. If I did use them, would it be better to use Granny Smiths, Braeburns, Pink Lady, etc!?
Is there anything else that I could put in the filling!?
also, what would be a good glaze!? Currently, I'm just going to do the powdered sugar-type glaze!. Any ideas on that one!?
Thank you in advance!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nuts are not strictly important in cinn rolls! Leave them out if you are allergic to them!. I never put fruit in cinn rolls!
But there ARE other dried fruits than grapes!! There are cranberries, blueberries, mixed fruit bits, apple bits, banana bits!. All kinds of things you could use!
My mother was highly allergic to raisins so I almost never use them in baking or desserts!. She is gone now but her ghost haunts my cooking!.
In the bakery I never put nuts in the cinn rolls!. For my friend I put clove and nutmeg in the spicing as she is allergic to cinn!.
I always glaze with the barely moistened powder sugar glaze usually flavored with almond or lemon extract!.
Granny Smith delivers the most tart flavor of the apples you list!. I do like the Gala too in baking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You could use currants or chopped dried apricots for the filling!.
The apples would work fine, use a granny smith and dice it about 1/8 inch so there is still a little body to it when it cooks!.
The confex icing works fine but if you want to step it up a bit you could enrich it with some cream cheese, that works really well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
