What does it mean if raw ground beef is clumping while mixing?!

Question: What does it mean if raw ground beef is clumping while mixing?
I bought ground beef at the market and started to make hamburgers. I mixed spices in with the raw meat, but while mixing I noticed the texture is different than usual. The beef has a weird tendancy to clump more. Like If I wanted to mold a figurine of the statue of liberty with this beef I'm sure I could as it has the consistency of clay. Does that mean it's bad?

That would not be one of the indicators that you would look for to ascertain if the gr beef were bad. Smell and date on package would be your first indicators.

sounds like an extender such as bread crumb and egg was already added or if frozen was not completely thawed or if just ground beef was regular rather than med or lean or xtra lean so more fat in mixture
