Simple cookbook for my friend who cant cook but wants to learn.?!
She told me she really wants to learn to cook for the kids sakes and also so she can incourage them to join in, and so they are not in the same position as her when they are adults.
Any suggestions of any books with good, but simple homely recipes.

Betty Crocker's Cookbook. It is a timeless classic with basic recipes, simple instructions, and lots of details. How to buy cuts of meat, pictures of what things look like, measuring dry ingredients vs liquids, etc. The recipes are good foods, lots of variations, and family friendly. This was one of my first cookbooks and I still refer to it for favorites.
I prefer it to Better Homes & Gardens although I have both, and many others. A real good starter cookbook that she can learn with, and feed her family well. The kids will be able to help out, too.
I will also pass along this tip. It you use ingredients you already like, you can learn to make up your own recipes as you go along. Substitutes are okay - they just change the outcome. This applies to cooking only - it doesn't work well for baking which is much more exacting like a science formula.
Gordon Ramsay's cookbooks are designed for home cooks (and some of his recipes can be found on the internet at channel 4 website or the Times.). It is also informative to watch his TV program called Cookalong Live if you have no other sources to learn the basic techniques. There are lots of celebrity chefs, but he is probably the best when it comes to introducing approachable cooking to home cooks. After all, he came to where he is today by cooking, not by swearing on TV.
It should help your friend very much if someone cooks with her for a month or so to teach the basics. Maybe she doesn't need to know how to make stocks right from the beginning, but she needs to know the difference between sweating and sauteing, how to poach, what simmering means, etc. It is rather difficult to perfect those things, but well, she is not cooking for paying customers, so it really doesn't matter. She has a lot of time to practice.
Once she gets the basics, I recommend her to learn how to make stocks. Preparing stocks from scratch really gives you a joy of cooking. To make a good stock, one needs to be extra careful, but with a good stock at hand, cooking becomes so easy. You can definitely see the difference between stock and stock cube in your dish.
Happy cooking and healthy eating and palate!
If your Mom or Grandma didn't teach you to cook, you're unfortunately left to recipe books and celebrity chefs on TV. The problem is neither of these actually teach you HOW to cook.
The Food Network is the MTV of Food. MTV used to play music, now they're entertainment ABOUT music. The Food Network is entertainment ABOUT food, they don't teach anyone to cook.
Neither will you learn how to cook from a book. Written recipes won't teach you to cook any more than having sheet music will teach you to play piano. There are too many variables in recipes that always lead to frustration.
The best way to free yourself from recipes and cook like a chef at home is to examine the basic cooking methods. When you learn HOW to saute, broil, grill, roast, then you can create your own recipes from what you have on hand.
Knowing HOW to cook anything is a skill that will save you time, money at the grocery store, improve your health, reunite your family over dinner, eat a greater variety of foods, and have this skill for the rest of your life.

Betty Crocker is the best. Easy to follow recipes and no weird ingredients. Perfect for a beginner.
It is a fact that the meals served at fast food chains have low nutritional values. There is actually no nutritional content to those oily, overly-fried burgers and fries. They will not be able to give you strong bones and muscles. What they can give you is unwanted fats and maybe even heart disease. For you to be able to avoid being overweight, getting a heart disease or diabetes, ditch these unhealthy foods now. If you like eating at fast food chains, break the habit. It is easier said than done, of course, but just think about how much your body will be better off without those junk.
Make sure to eat fruits and vegetables everyday. Oh, you should not only watch what you eat, but what you drink as well. Don't drown yourself in sodas, fizzy drinks and those lattes or Moschino. Too much carbonated drink and caffeine is not good for the body. Drink as much water as you can everyday. You can never go wrong with fresh fruit juices, too. If you like meat, then you can turn to chicken and fish instead of eating too much beef and pork.
If you want to start eating right, there is no better time to start that now. Incorporate food with nutritional value into your daily menu. You will not have a hard time learning about different foods and what they can contribute to your health. Make your life more healthy with our 5 amazing recipes eBook. Now what do you think people would say if your diet consists of junk food? Take a healthy step towards delicious meals and new tastes! Imagine how your body would react when you eat the right kinds of food! Don't forget, you are what you eat!
