NY strip steak with pork-like texture?!

I just had a ny strip steak and it had a really weird texture. It had a weird taste too.. it was slightly salty and I didn't add any salt. The texture was like ham steak almost.. I bought it like three days ago and froze it as soon as I got home so I know it wasn't spoiled. I broiled it for 5 minutes on one side and about 4 on the other. It was rare... and about an 1 1/2" in thickness. I'm not sure if it was from wal mart or HEB really. I had steak I bought from wal mart frozen in the fridge as well... that was only about 2 weeks old.

Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about..
Can anyone tell me what happened?? A different steak from the same package I had the day before was amazing! But that one was terrible. any advice would be great!

I know HEB doesn't add all the preservatives or other added ingredients like wal marts pre-packaged meat.
