Why my rice gives a stinky odor when cooked ?!

Question: Why my rice gives a stinky odor when cooked ?
I have just bought a new bag of white rice, it looks like basmati , it gives a stinky odor when cooked.
I don't know if it normal or not to have that kind of smell !
is it safe to consume it ?

Answers:

check the name on the rice is it a perfumed Asian rice such as Jasmine? Try rinsing rice first which is always recommended with Basmati run until water is clear. If not a perfumed or specialty rice could be contaminated with rodent urine but a good rinsing and cooking will correct.
