If a chicken leg was in fridge raw for 4 days, smells funny, can I eat it?!

Question: If a chicken leg was in fridge raw for 4 days, smells funny, can I eat it?
A raw chicken leg was sitting in the fridge for 4 days. It smells a bit funny, but no visual signs that it has gone bad. Can I still cook it well and eat it?

Answers:

In the food industry we are to never hold fresh poultry for more than 4 days, there's your answer. And FYI it should NEVER smell 'funny'.

Hope this helps!

Poultry is VERY susceptible to bacteria growth and should be kept in the refrigerator only about 2 days before cooking or freezing. 4 days is stretching it and if it doesn't smell good you are smelling bacteria growth. Please toss it out. There is almost nothing worse than food poisoning from bad poultry and I would hate to know you had suffered through it!

If it smells funny, there's a reason for that.... It's going bad and could cause you to have a very miserable time after eating it! Food poisoning is not fun to have.

Use the old saying that is the best advice of all when dealing with food, "When in doubt, throw it out"

Smell funny as in slightly rotten? Or just smell funny as in raw chicken?

If you bought it at the supermarket and then stuck it in the fridge when you got home, its probably fine. But you should go with your animal instinct regarding the smell...

I may only be 14 but i think most of us think the same. I mean would you eat something that smells funny or yuck sometimes weird? The answer is definitely NO! But I don't blame you if you don't take my advice considering i'm only 14

usually when it smells funny , it's not a good sign ... but if there is no visual signs so it is not rotten so I guess it would be good to eat :) .

no should not eat meat of any kind after twodays as bacteria and thin fungus will be formed on them.

As long as it has been wrapped or covered I would go for it, just make sure you cook through.

if they look good and don't smell so funny then broil them and eat them.

yes, the heat will kill the germs
